About the Yatra

A journey crafted with reverence

Our flagship overland yatra is a profound 15-day pilgrimage that traces the ancient footsteps of sages into the heart of the Trans-Himalayas. This journey is more than a mere expedition; it is a spiritual odyssey that takes you from the bustling energy of Kathmandu to the silent, majestic heights of the Tibetan Plateau. You will witness the raw beauty of the high-altitude desert, where the sky seems closer and the air carries a deep sense of peace. The highlight of the yatra is the 52-km parikrama of Mount Kailash, a sacred circumambulation that has been performed for millennia by devotees seeking spiritual liberation. At the celestial Lake Mansarovar, you will have the opportunity to take a holy dip in its pristine waters, believed to be the source of all life and a cleanser of karma. Our experienced team handles every logistical detail, from high-altitude acclimatization protocols to visa permits and sherpa support, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the spiritual essence of the abode of Lord Shiva.

Day by Day

Itinerary

Day1

Delhi → Kathmandu

Your sacred journey begins with a flight from Delhi to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our team and transferred to your hotel. In the evening, attend a comprehensive orientation briefing where our experts will walk you through the journey ahead, safety protocols, and spiritual preparations. The day concludes with a visit to the Pashupatinath Temple for the evening "Aarti" by the banks of the Bagmati River, offering a powerful introduction to the spiritual energy of Nepal.

Day2

Kathmandu Exploration

Spend the day exploring the rich spiritual heritage of Kathmandu. Visit the massive Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world, and the Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) which offers panoramic views of the city. These visits are not just for sightseeing but serve as gentle acclimatization walks to prepare your body for higher altitudes. In the afternoon, there will be a final gear check and an opportunity to purchase any last-minute trekking essentials.

Day3

Kathmandu → Nyalam

An early start for a scenic drive towards the Nepal-Tibet border at Kodari/Kyirong. After completing immigration formalities, you will cross into the Tibet Autonomous Region of China. The landscape changes dramatically as you ascend onto the Tibetan Plateau. We continue our drive to Nyalam (3,750m), where you will begin to feel the effects of high altitude. Overnight stay in a local guest house.

Day4

Acclimatization at Nyalam

A crucial rest day dedicated to acclimatization. We will take short, slow-paced hikes to nearby ridges to help your body adjust to the thin air. Our medical team will conduct regular oxygen and pulse checks throughout the day. This is a time for reflection and gentle movement, allowing your system to adapt before we push further into the high plateau.

Day5

Nyalam → Saga

A long but breathtaking drive across the vast Tibetan plateau. You will cross high passes like Lalung La (5,050m), offering stunning views of Shishapangma and the Himalayan range. The route follows the Brahmaputra River (locally known as Yarlung Tsangpo) as we head towards the town of Saga (4,640m). The expansive vistas and nomadic settlements provide a glimpse into the traditional Tibetan way of life.

Day6

Saga → Lake Mansarovar

Today is the day you first catch sight of the sacred Lake Mansarovar. The drive takes us through Paryang and over the Mayum La pass. As we approach the lake, the first glimpse of Mount Kailash in the distance is often a deeply emotional moment for pilgrims. We will check into a guest house near the shore, and in the evening, we will gather for a serene aarti by the lakeside as the sun sets over the holy waters.

Day7

Mansarovar Rituals

Wake up before dawn to witness the ethereal beauty of the stars reflecting in Lake Mansarovar. This is the time for the ceremonial holy dip (as per local regulations) and performing ancestral rituals (Tarpan) led by our accompanying priest. Later, we will perform a vehicle parikrama of the lake, visiting the Chiu Monastery perched on a hill, offering stunning views of both Mansarovar and the neighboring Rakshastal.

Day8

Mansarovar → Darchen

A short drive takes us to Darchen (4,670m), the bustling base camp for the Mount Kailash parikrama. The day is spent in final preparation—sorting out gear, hiring ponies or porters for those who need them, and attending a detailed briefing on the three-day trek ahead. Take this time to rest and mentally prepare for the spiritual high point of your journey.

Day9

Parikrama Day 1: Darchen → Dirapuk

The first day of the 52-km parikrama. We trek approximately 12 km through the Lha-chu valley. The trail is relatively easy but the altitude makes every step significant. We reach Dirapuk (4,860m), located directly across from the majestic North Face of Mount Kailash. The sight of the sun hitting the golden peak of the "Stairway to Heaven" in the evening is an unforgettable experience.

Day10

Parikrama Day 2: Dirapuk → Zutulpuk

The most challenging and spiritually significant day. We ascend to the Dolma La Pass (5,630m), the highest point of the trek, marked by thousands of fluttering prayer flags. After offering prayers at the pass, we descend steeply towards Gauri Kund, the Lake of Compassion. The day concludes at Zutulpuk (4,760m), where the legendary cave of Milarepa is located. The sense of achievement and spiritual elevation today is profound.

Day11

Parikrama Day 3: Zutulpuk → Darchen

The final leg of the parikrama. We trek about 14 km along a gentle downhill trail following the river. Upon reaching the end point near Darchen, we complete the sacred circle. You will be picked up and driven back to Darchen for a well-deserved rest and a celebratory dinner with your fellow pilgrims, sharing the experiences of the past three days.

Day12

Darchen → Saga

We begin our return journey across the Tibetan plateau. While the route is familiar, the changing light and your new perspective after the parikrama make the landscape feel different. We spend the night in Saga, reflecting on the profound experiences at the feet of Mount Kailash.

Day13

Saga → Kathmandu

A long drive back towards the Nepal border. We cross back into the lush greenery of Nepal, a stark contrast to the arid beauty of Tibet. Upon reaching Kathmandu, check into your hotel and enjoy a hot shower and a celebratory dinner, marking the successful completion of the Tibetan leg of the yatra.

Day14

Kathmandu Rest Day

A free day in Kathmandu for rest, relaxation, and personal exploration. You can visit local markets for souvenirs, indulge in a traditional spa treatment to soothe your trekking muscles, or revisit the temples for a final prayer of gratitude. This evening, we gather for a final farewell dinner to celebrate the bonds formed during this life-changing journey.

Day15

Kathmandu → Delhi

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight back to Delhi. You return home not just with photographs and souvenirs, but with the profound blessings of Mahadev and a heart filled with the peace and clarity that only a pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar can provide.
